What is BookPig / How does BookPig work? BookPig is the leading online children’s book rental service focused on school-aged readers and backed by a recommendation engine that learns the reading level and preferences of every child to help kids pick books they’ll love. After signing up and selecting the number of books your family will need, you create reading request queues for each of your children. You’ll receive your first shipment in about 1 week and another shipment about 4 weeks later. When you’re done reading the first set of books, send them back using the included pre-paid mailing label, and we’ll send you more – up to one shipment per month. It’s that simple.

How many books do I get and how much does it cost?
We have a range of plans to meet the varying needs of different families. All of our plans include individual reading lists and recommendations for each child, 1 exchange per month, and free delivery and return shipping.

How soon and how often do I get books? Once you have completed registration, your first shipment be shipped within one business day and arrive 2-7 days later. In rare cases, if your top picks are not in stock and we can get them within 24 hours, we may delay your shipment up to 2 days. If it looks like it will take longer, we will send out the next available books.

After your first shipment, we will pre-ship your next shipment 30 days later. Once you receive your next set of books, send back the last set. As long as we receive your returned books within 30 days, your next shipment will go out on time. If not, we'll hold your next shipment until we receive your return.

What is the selection like?
We have over 5000 thousand titles in stock and are rapidly expanding our library every day. If you do not find something you are looking for please email us your request at librarian@bookpig.com and we will do our best to get it.

What condition are your books in? We receive new and used books from many sources. Prior to inclusion in our library, we inspect all books to ensure they are in good condition, then protect them using a laminate cover similar to books you get from a library. After every shipment, books are again inspected and cleaned before going back into stock.

If you receive any book that is not to your satisfaction, please promptly report it to us and we will send out a replacement.

Can my kids pick their own books?
Yes. Every child gets a unique reading queue. You can select books for each child or you can set-up a log-in that gives them access to manage their own account and select their own books.

How does your feedback system/recommendation engine work? Your kids can provide feedback to us on the books they Loved/Hated or books that were Too Hard/Too Easy in one of two ways: 1) entering the data online while browsing for books or managing their queue, or 2) using feedback stickers that are provided with every book shipped. Our recommendation engine uses this data to learn the reading level and preferences of each child and then searches through our catalog to find books with similar attributes. As a child’s reading level and preferences change over time, so will our recommendations.

Will this help my child read more?
While there are no guarantees, study after study has shown that kids read more when they have access to books they like to read. Our approach not only lets kids choose books they want, but also makes it easy for kids to find books by learning what they like and recommnding similar books. In addition, by offering a convenient, low-cost rental service, we allow parents to surround their children with books. If they don’t like the first book, they’ll probably like the next one. As parents ourselves, we feel this gives you the best chance to keep your kids reading.

How often and when do I get billed? BookPig is a monthly Book Rental service. You will get billed every month on the same date – your monthly billing day. Your monthly bill date will be set after the end of your free trial.

Can I cancel anytime?
You may cancel anytime by Logging in and selecting Cancel Membership. If you do choose to cancel, please return any outstanding books within 14 days.

I received a gift certificate – what do I do now? All gift certificates are redeemable against any monthly subscription plan. To get started click on Buy/Redeem Gift in the upper right corner or go directly to SignUp and enter your gift code at the end of the sing-up page. Additionally, you can always enter your gift certificate into your account via Manage Account once you’ve registered and logged in.

How do I give BookPig as a gift?
BookPig requires an account owner to actively manage the account. To give a gift to a family you know, you’ll need to know the email address of the existing or intended account owner (usually mom or dad). Once you’ve got that, click on the Buy/Redeem Gift link in the upper right corner of the screen, select an amount, and email the gift certificate code along with a personalized message. The email will instrcut the recipient on how to redeem the gift certificate.
